Mark joined The Nature Conservancy in 2000 and serves as Hawaiʻi’s Director of External Affairs. As the program’s primary government relations liaison, Mark works closely with policy and decision-makers to develop policies and secure funding in support of conservation. He has helped to increase state funding for conservation to more than $20 million annually and secure federal funds to add more than 100,000 acres to Hawaiʻi’s network of protected areas. (Interviewed by Kim Hum, October 2016.)
